GETTING STARTED AT TORUS BJJ
Welcome to TORUS BJJ! Whether you're an adult looking to start training or a parent bringing your child to class, we’re excited to have you on the mats. Here’s everything you need to know to get started.
We offer a free week trial so you can experience our classes firsthand. When signing up, you’ll select the date you’d like to start, which will be your first class. But don’t worry—if you can’t make that specific day, just come in when you can!
You can attend any of our Adult BJJ classes or the appropriate Kids BJJ classes based on age. Check our schedule and pick the class that fits best for you. You can log into the portal and sign up for your free trial classes directly, so we know when you're coming.
WHAT TO WEAR
For your first class, wear comfortable athletic gear—nothing too loose, and avoid zippers or buttons as they can cause injuries or damage mats. If you have a gi, you’re welcome to wear it, but it’s not required. We sometimes have loaner gis available for adults, but you can also train in your workout clothes.
WHAT TO EXPECT IN A CLASS
-
When you arrive, we’ll pair you with an experienced training partner who is great at working with beginners. They’ll help guide you through class and make sure you feel comfortable.
-
Each class starts with a warm-up, followed by technical instruction and drilling. You’ll learn new techniques and then practice them with a partner.
-
Live training drills are a core part of the class. We focus on positional escapes and controlled resistance to help you apply techniques in real time. Your partner will walk you through the basics of each position while guiding you through the drills.
